Step 1: How To Use Twitter Search to Gain New Leads
Did you know there are loads of leads in your area literally tweeting about how much they need a personal trainer? Seriously. Here's how to find them:
- Log in to you Twitter account
- Click in the search bar at the top, type... "need personal trainer" and hit enter.
- Click on the Search Filters on the left of the search result
- Choose 'Near You' in the menu
Step 2: Use The Magic 9 Word Email
This email is incredibly simple but incredibly effective. It doesn’t matter if you have a big or small email list, whether you have been in touch with them regularly or even not at all.
The 9 word email was devised by top marketer Dean Jackson and it goes like this:
The 9 word email was devised by top marketer Dean Jackson and it goes like this:
Subject: Hey
[NAME],
Are you still looking to [YOUR SERVICE]?
Phil
That’s it. 9 words. Maybe a few more if it takes a phrase to say what you offer.
This works because it is so simple and direct, the person reading is compelled to respond in the affirmative if they are still looking for what you offer.
As with any marketing effort, most people won’t respond, but anybody who does is putting their hand up and directly saying that they are looking for what you offer. As soon as you get a response, you can email them back and organise a time to speak further.
Don’t be tempted to add anything else to the original email. You don’t need to explain your product or even ask how their weekend was. It only detracts from the power and urgency of the message.
This email is great to use if you haven’t been in contact with your list for a while (or ever). If you are in regular contact – which you should be – it is something that works well every 3 months or so.
People get so many emails these days that they will soon forget that they have received it and not be bothered about receiving the same message 3 months later. The only people who will really pay any attention to the email are those who respond.
Here’s a specific example of how it might look for you in your business:
Subject: Hey
John,
Are you still looking to lose weight?
Phil
*Potential client responds saying that they are.*
Hey John,
Great to hear from you.
That’s awesome. I’d like to help you out.
Let’s have a quick 20 min chat about your goals and put a little plan together for you over the phone/coffee to get you there.
I’m available at X,Y,Z time – let me know which is best for you.
Phil
Of course, some people will respond with additional questions/comments/conversation threads that you will need to address in the reply. Ensure that you take note of what they have said and respond accordingly.
Some people will reply telling you they are working with Dave the PT down the road and he is great. Don’t make an offer to these people, just congratulate them on taking action and offer your best wishes.
Use your judgement for who is appropriate to make an offer to and who is not.
Once you get someone on the phone/to meet you, then simply run a normal consultation. Talk about their goals, offer your prescription of what they need to do and if it’s a fit, make them an offer to work with you.
Step 3. How To Use Facebook Groups to Find Quick Work
Facebook groups have always been a great source of free leads. But there's a fine line between spamming a group and genuinely being helpful. Here's how to get leads from a Facebook group without becoming the local nuisance:
- Find local groups to you. Groups related to your interest or that are likely to be full of your leads are best.
- Once you get accepted in to the group, use the search bar at the top and search for things like "personal trainer" and "lose weight".
- Scan the results for questions you can answer. Be as helpful as possible.
- If you have a page on your website that answers the questions in the group, link to that to get loads of targeted visitors.
